| - Ghem-general Rae ghem Estif was a Cetagandan general, "one of the lesser ones", who took part in the later years of the First Cetagandan War. He had been awarded a haut-wife, Moira, at least in part so that there would be more trained haut women geneticists present on Barrayar for Star Crèche purposes. When the war ended, he chose not to return to Cetaganda. As the beneficiary of a sizable chunk of Komarran voting shares, he instead chose to live on Komarr for some years. However, on the occasion of the Komarran Conquest, he and his family felt it necessary to relocate; he probably moved to Earth with Moira. By the time of the events of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, he had died; the time and cause had not been specified. Rae had had a son, Captain ghem Estif; after the death of his son, Moira sought to make up his loss by providing him with a daughter, Udine.
