The 1965 NHL Amateur Draft was the third amateur draft helf in the history of the National Hockey League. This draft was marked by a special agreement between the NHL, the AHL, the Central Hockey League and Western Pro Hockey League. The teams of those leagues were allowed to draft players once the NHL teams would be done doing so. The WHL and AHL were granted three picks; the CPHL, 2. However, the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL are the only team to have choosen to participate in the draft; they're also the only non-NHL team to have ever made a pick in an NHL draft. With only 11 players selected, the 1965 NHL Amateur Draft was the shortest of the history.
