| - When Jacen and Jaina were thirteen, their mother helped invoke the Galactic Games and they were allowed to attend the opening ceremony. Several days into the competition, they and Anakin abruptly burst into their mother's office to find out when they could go to the game, as she had been busy and their father was watching smashball with his friend Lando Calrissian. Their uncle Luke Skywalker arrived and offered to take them to the games, where they watched several of the events, including the galactic octathlon. Having sensed Force-usage from one of the competitors, a young man named Ryion Kraestor from Yanibar, he and the three children approached Ryion. However, Ryion—actually a Force-using Elite Guardian—was standoffish and had no interest in talking with the Jedi, though he was surprised to learn that the children hadn't been conscripted to the Jedi academy. Nevertheless, when an Imperial assassin threatened Leia Solo, Ryion intervened, saving her life despite being wounded in the process. Jaina and the other children were frightened, but were assuaged by their droid minder C-3PO that their mother was fine. Jacen and Jaina underwent Jedi training on Yavin 4. Jaina trained under her aunt Mara Jade Skywalker and made many close friends at the academy. They were thrust into conflict at a young age, battling against the Diversity Alliance and the Second Imperium. Jaina was able to redeem one of her friends, Zekk, from the academy, after she refused to keep fighting him in a lightsaber duel. Jaina's own strengths reflected those of her father—she was mechanically adept and a good pilot, while her twin showed a natural affinity for living things. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded in 25 ABY, Jaina joined the fight against the aliens. She served both as a Jedi and a pilot in Rogue Squadron. She quickly became a hardened combat veteran, serving in action over Dantooine, Ithor, and Duro, among many other places. She lost many friends in battle and was wounded many times. The near-turning point for her was a risky mission to Myrkr to destroy the Jedi-hunting voxyn creatures the Yuuzhan Vong had made. The mission was a success but was extremely risky. Her brother Anakin was fatally wounded while Jacen was captured. In response, Jaina nearly fell to the dark side, but was helped back with the help of her friends, Jedi Master Kyp Durron, and a fighter pilot named Jagged Fel. Jaina continued to fight in the Yuuzhan Vong War, serving at Borleias after Coruscant fell. She became part of an elaborate psychological warfare scheme where she impersonated a Yuuzhan Vong goddess even as she began a relationship with Jagged Fel. At Ebaq 9, she personally slew the Yuuzhan Vong warmaster, the brutal Tsavong Lah. By the war's end, she was one of the foremost Jedi, elevated to Jedi Knight by her uncle and dubbed the Sword of the Jedi. She served in the final battle on Coruscant and along with her uncle and Jacen helped kill the Yuuzhan Vong leadership to bring about a surrender. Following the war, Jaina remained in the Jedi Order and was partially responsible for instigating the Swarm War in 35 ABY when she, along with many other young Jedi, became Joined to a Killik hive. Jaina was ultimately retrieved and she recovered from the influence of the insect pheromones, though not after lengthy service on behalf of the Killiks against the Chiss, which led her into battle against her old flame Jagged Fel. In 38 ABY, Jaina and her longtime partner Zekk were sent to Belsavis to investigate reports of trouble on the icy world. Neither of them were aware that the planet had been attacked and infected with the technobeast virus by Ariada Cerulaen, a Wroonian Dark Jedi who had once been a Yanibar Elite Guardian. She had resurfaced after years of planning and began a campaign of galactic terror, targeting the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi Order. Jaina and Zekk were piloting with StealthXes when they came under attack from hidden starfighters belonging to Ariada. Four Yanibar Elite Guardians led by Ryion Kraen attempted to intervene, but came under attack. Jaina's fighter was shot down and Ryion bailed out to recover her while his companions Zeyn and Qedai escorted the other StealthX away from Belsavis. During their escape, the fourth Elite Guardian Jutka was slain by hostile fire. Ryion was able to pull an injured and unconscious Jaina out of her crashed StealthX. He took shelter in an ice cave he carved out of a crevasse with explosives. Jaina's wounds were severe and she was feverish and unconscious for several days, while Ryion did his best to stabilize her. When she finally awoke, he informed her that she was too injured to move, risking permanent damage if she did so. Thus, they waited for eventual rescue, as Ryion lacked the skills and equipment to treat her properly. Eventually Ryion's father Selu Kraen, along with a small Jedi contingent, arrived in a Yanibar Guard cruiser that Selu now commanded, and landed in a shuttle. They found Ryion and Jaina and extracted them just as Ariada's forces arrived. Fleeing from an attack by Ariada's fighters, they returned to the cruiser, Daara'sherum, which was then attacked by Ariada's cruiser, the Knightfall. Only the arrival of a Galactic Alliance task force saved them. Ryion's aunt, Cassi Kraen, who was a Jedi healer, then took it upon herself to help treat Jaina's injuries, both the ones she had recently sustained as well as lingering unhealed wounds from prior conflicts. Jaina was initially reluctant and impatient, but Cassi's compassion and vulnerability eventually swayed her, and the young Jedi Knight thanked her warmly for her ministrations. Meanwhile, the Elite Guardians along with a small Jedi contingent then tried to anticipate Ariada's next targets. One possibility that came up was Rhinnal, home to a former Jedi chapter house as well as a medical school. Ryion journeyed there, but was too late to stop explosions from ripping through the chapter house and medical school. His ship was also identified and destroyed, as well as his emergency account drained, leaving him stranded. While Selu was discussing the predicament, Jaina offered to journey there and retrieve Ryion. Selu assented, supplying her with a ship. She arrived on Rhinnal, doing her best to deflect the angry jeers and thrown rubbish of an anti-Jedi mob, whose sentiments had been stoked by Ariada. The Dark Jedi had sought to fracture the Jedi Order from the Galactic Alliance and had inflamed some of the tensions. As Jaina was fending off a physical assault, one of Ariada's assassins revealed herself from where she had been egging on the crowd. She attempted to fight Jaina, but the battle-hardened Jedi Knight easily fended off her assault and shifted to the counter-attack, pursuing the assassin into an industrial district. The assassin, a woman named Garnet, attempted to trap her by crushing her beneath a superheated phrik beam, but Jaina was able to shove it away telekinetically and wound her opponent. Garnet fled and Jaina was unable to pursue her due to a series of explosive charges that Garnet triggered. Instead, Jaina went in search of Ryion, finding him at the home of some local citizens who had shown him charity and taken him in. Leaving Rhinnal, they headed back to the Daara'sherum. While they were en route, Ariada sent them a message that revealed she had captured Ryion's wife Shara, who had been visiting her family on Chalacta one last time before Yanibar's evacuation. She gave him and Jaina a chilling ultimatum: surrender to her, or else Shara and the Skywalker-Solo families would face the consequences. Jaina and Ryion acquiesced, boarding a derelict freighter Ariada led them to and freezing themselves in carbonite as instructed. When Jaina awoke, she was on Ariada's own cruiser, strapped to a medical table and cut off from the Force by ysalamiri. Unable to escape or resist, she was powerless to improve his own situation. However, Ariada approached her and allowed her basic amenities, treating her well as long as she cooperated and attempted no escape. Jaina's instincts were to try and escape, but she pragmatically complied in order to keep receiving food and relatively good treatment. Little did she know what Ariada had in store for her. However, Ariada did not know that Jaina and Ryion had attached subtle tracking particles to her ship, allowing for the others to follow Ariada. Ryion was eventually freed when Selu and the others were able to track Ariada down and board her ship. After a brief standoff, Ryion was freed. He went in pursuit of Jaina and Shara, finding Jaina first, while the others sought to disable Ariada's ship and the bombs she had planted on Coruscant and Bespin. Ariada's henchman, Aspra Serpaddis, attempted to use Shara as a hostage, but Ryion and Jaina were able to save her and stop Aspra Serpaddis. Jaina found herself facing two of Ariada's assassins. After a brutal struggle, she slew both of them, but was injected with a potent neurotoxin. Jaina was partially able to neutralize it with the Force, but was still weakened. When Ryion returned from handling Aspra Serpaddis, he gathered Shara and Jaina. They fell back to a staging area to have their injuries treated and were ordered to withdraw by Selu and his wife Milya Kraen. They did as instructed, leaving on Selu's ship, the Hawk-bat, even as Selu and Milya sacrificed themselves to prevent Ariada from killing millions on Coruscant and Bespin. Thereafter, they were rescued by a Yanibar Guard and Galactic Alliance task force. On the Yanibar Guard cruiser Daara'sherum, Ryion informed Shara that Jaina was carrying a child that Ariada had created from his and Solo's DNA without their knowledge. She was initially crushed, but felt the child was innocent—while Jaina and Ryion were equally horrified. Jaina in particular did not feel she was ready for motherhood. Knowing that Ryion's cousin Akleyn and his wife Qedai were not able to have children, Ryion suggested that they give the child to Akleyn and Qedai to raise. To avoid Jaina having to carry the child to term and since the Yanibar refuge would depart for Atlaradis before the child was born, Shara offered to serve as a surrogate mother instead. All involved agreed and the plan was carried out discreetly, with Jaina's memory wiped at her request and her family none the wiser. Selu and Milya were memorialized at a ceremony on the Yanibar Guard flagship over Yanibar, which was attended not only by the rest of the Kraen family, but also by Jaina and other members of the Jedi Order and Galactic Alliance dignitaries with whom Selu had reconciled. Following the ceremony, the Yanibar refuge left Atlaradis while Jaina returned to Coruscant and continued to serve in the New Jedi Order. Years later, she was involved in both the Second Galactic Civil War, initially on the side of the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi Order. When the Jedi broke away as her twin brother seized power of the Galactic Alliance and fell to the dark side, Jaina found herself opposing him. She also rekindled her relationship with Jagged Fel, who unbeknownst to her had been retrieved from Tenupe where he had been missing by a contractor employed by Ryion. Jaina ultimately faced her brother, now a Sith Lord, and slew him, as the civil war ground to a bloody stalemate. His death marked the end of the civil war. Three years later, as the Galactic Alliance was attempting to rebuild itself, Jaina faced governmental opposition when certain Jedi Knights began to exhibit psychosis. She was active in the ensuing conflict, which at times endangered her engagement to Jagged Fel. Jaina was also active against the concurrent Sith uprising and the Abeloth incident and was elevated to Jedi Master during both crises. After the Galactic Alliance was re-stabilized and the Sith and Abeloth defeated, she married Jagged.
