| - An astilfe is a small, stealthy, venomous monster that appears in Might and Magic: The Dreamwright. One night, when Hitch is traveling with Diligence's caravan, he spots an astilfe among the yeofolk, and is attacked by it. He describes it as much smaller than a human, with "impossibly long arms, pale eyes the size of saucers, and a mouth that glittered like a sack full of broken glass." When threatened, it emits a high-pitched, chattering shriek, before delivering a painful sting and latching firmly to its victim, rocking back and forth. Hitch said the pain was like nothing he had ever felt before.

When he finally knocks the creature off, it felt as if his wrist were wrapped in a bracelet of cold fire. He passes out, and is unconscious for the next three days. Even when he wakes, he can only lie in bed for a day or two, and eating anything other than bland grummidge causes him to throw up. Diligence explains that the toxin of astilfes gets yeofolk pregnant, so if he hadn't disturbed the astilfe, their entire herd would have been unfit to travel. As it was, only one of them had to be taken to an impery and replaced. As he saved their herd, Breitling is a bit less hostile to Hitch afterwards, but he still doesn't like the boy.
