The Covenant Assault on the Great Plains region of North America was embarked on in an attempt to cut the U.S. and Canada down the middle in an attempt to make it difficult for the UNSC to transport supplies from the west coast to the east coast. Covenant forces under the Brute Chieftain Tarkanus chose focus their efforts on the base at Fort Sill, the home of a considerable amount of the UNSC's field artillery. Fort Sill itself is located in a small region of Oklahoma that differs considerably from the rest of the state. Far from flat, Fort Sill is located in a range of small granite mountains rising about 2450 feet above sea level known as the Wichita Mountains. The difference in terrain would play a key role in the battle to come.
