HistoryText
  • Origin Early Life Marsyas Boltagon was born as the first daughter to the Attilanian Royal couple of Prince Coeus Boltagon, brother of King Cronus Boltagon, and Lady Milena Boltagon. Coeus and Milena's marriage was socially and politically arranged by their parents and despite Milena's best efforts, no true love existed between them. Coeus engaged in numerous affairs, neglecting his wife and two daughters, Marsyas and Pythia. Although, as Pythia grew in age, Pythia gained favor with her father. Lady Milena had a truly kind heart and a beautiful soul, as she devoted her time and energy to her children and to serving the poor, the hungry, and the sick of Attilan's people. Milena eventually fell in love with the Head Commander of Attilan's Police Force, Chrysomallus, as she nursed him and several of his officers back to health, after a rare, but violent Alpha Primitive riot. Chrysomallus fell in love with Lady Milena after witnessing the compassionate way in which she treated both the injured officers and the injured Alpha Primitives, alike. Milena fell in love with Chrysomallus after getting to know the kind, caring individual he truly was underneath his guarded, tough exterior. The two engaged in a love affair and Chrysomallus soon became an unofficial father figure to Marsyas, who was perceptive beyond her years and knew the state of her parents' relationship. Chrysomallus was a tough, strict, and strong commander and man, but he had a soft spot for Marsyas. The two hit it off over common personality types and bonded as Chrysomallus taught Marsyas how to fight and defend herself and how to be a good and strong leader. Marsyas grew to love Chrysomallus more than she had ever loved her father and Chrysomallus loved Marsyas more than her father ever would. Chrysomallus started to make Marsyas feel as though she belonged, despite having feelings of being an "outsider," since she was little. Eventually though, Coeus discovered Milena's affair and he, filled with envy, anger, and damaged pride, framed Chrysomallus for allegedly trying to stage a coup to overthrow King Cronus from the throne and establish a Police state government with him as its head of state. Chrysomallus' trial was fixed with false witness testimony and Coeus had Chrysomallus sentenced to death. Soon after Chrysomallus' execution, Coeus poisoned Milena for her part in her affair and strong armed the royal family's current Medical Regent and primary physician, Galen, to declare her death as an abrupt medical anomaly, yet devoid of foul play. Coeus, as a master of lies and deception, convinced the Attilanian people of his grief and heartbreak, but Marsyas suspected and perhaps, deep down, knew the truth. However, without any solid evidence, Marsyas could not officially accuse her father of any wrongdoing. After mourning the loss of her mother and Chrysomallus, Marsyas vowed to get justice for their deaths, no matter how long it would take. With great patience in fulfilling the attainment of the retribution she sought, Marsyas enrolled in the Attilanian Police Force Academy in order to use her time and energy to help others and build her case to avenge Milena and Chrysomallus' deaths. However, due to the loss of both her mother and her father figure, Marsyas drifted back further into feeling isolated and misunderstood and so decided to become a standoffish loner once again in her quest for vengeance. Police Force Academy Marsyas faced much scrutiny from her patriarchal society due to joining the primarily male Police Force, but due to her Royal status and standing, exceptions were made for her to join. Truthfully, King Cronus didn't think Marsyas would be able to handle it and hoped she would either quit or die in the line of duty. While in the Academy, Marsyas excelled quickly, much to many of her peers' surprise. Marsayas had started a rivalry with a fellow policeman, Phobeus, during her early days within the Academy. Phoebus was a haughty, chauvinist young man who believed a woman, let alone, a "posh little royal duchess," had what it took to be on the force. He was livid when the two of them were eventually paired together as partners. Phoebus changed his tune after Marsyas saved his life while on the job, one night, from an enraged Alpha Primitive. Phoebus eventually let go of his prejudice against Marsyas and the two began to bond, become friends, and have each others' backs. He admired the way she treated the Alpha Primitives and the other officers, alike, with respect and dignity. Despite the other officers' poor treatment of her, she never stooped down to their level. However, she didn't just lie down and let them walk all over her either. She stood up for herself and what she believed in. Marsyas confided in Phoebus about Chrysomallus and Milena and he agreed to help her gain justice for their deaths, especially since Phoebus looked up to Chrysomallus as a role model and sort of personal hero. After working her way up through the police ranks, Marsyas came into to closer contact with the new Head Commander of Attilan's Police force, Sinon. Sinon was brutal, or as brutal as he could be without drawing too much attention to himself or causing a widespread revolt, in his treatment of the people. Sinon was a puppet of Prince Coeus and attained his new position of authority and prestige by acting as the key false witness against Chrysomallus in his execution trial. Prior to bearing this false witness, Sinon was Chrysomallus' second-in-command of the police and was who Chrysomallus had thought was his best friend, confidant, and chief counselor. After much patience in gathering intelligence and evidence, with the help of Phoebus, to support that Sinon had lied during the trial, Marsyas confronted Sinon in the streets of the city's center. Fearful that he had been caught, Sinon had his group of dirty cops, who had already dispatched Phoebus for the time being, attempt to apprehend Marsyas, citing erratic behavior, violent tendencies, and conflagratory insubordination. Marsyas used her powers and strength to fend off the corrupt members off the police force in a fray that caused some severe, but localized property damage. After defeating her assailants, Marsyas turned her eyes back towards Sinon. By this point, other members of the Royal family wanted to get involved in order to break up the fight and prevent any other irruptions of violence. King Cronus, amused by the fight, forbade anyone else from interceding. Sinon, seeing that he would have to take matters into his own hands, geared up to take on Marsyas one-on-one. In an all out brawl, both combatants grew fatigued, yet adrenalized as they continued to fight to a standstill. Sinon eventually gained the upper hand due to more combat experience and as he thought he was going to deliver the finishing blow, he whispered to Marsyas a cryptic, snide remark about how weak she was and that she deserved to die a weakling's death just like Chrysomallus had. It was only after Sinon made this taunt that Marsyas, fueled by anger and fury, got up to her feet and was filled with a berserker's rage, as she overpowered Sinon. Marsyas pummeled Sinon into submission after knocking him flat on his back. As Sinon conceded the fight and begged Marsyas for mercy, Marsyas dragged him to his feet in a choke hold and demanded that he confess what he had done to all the people spectating the fight. Sinon, defeated and exhausted, gave in and confessed to framing Chrysomallus and to providing false testimony at his trial. When Marsyas demanded he say why, he admitted that he wanted to take over Chrysomallus' position as the new Head Commander and that he wanted all of the perks of social standing and wealth that came along with it. Almost satisfied, Marsyas demanded to know one last thing: Did anyone put him up to it? Sinon, filled with fear and dread, hesitated and quickly glanced towards Coeus. Coeus, with his telepathic powers, anticipated that Sinon was going to give him up and so he quickly made a telepathic assault that overloaded and destroyed Sinon's mind. This telepathic assault stopped Sinon dead in his tracks as he began to open his mouth to utter Coeus' name. Marsyas, shocked that Sinon fell down to the ground, dead in her arms, was apprehended by the police force after Cronus finally gave the orders to end it. Induction Into the Inhuman Royal Guard Marsyas, while sitting in a prison cell within the Attilanian Royal Palace's dungeon, was filled with so many different, conflicting emotions. It was only a few hours before she was released, but in this time, she contemplated what had all occurred. She didn't know whether or not she had caused Sinon's death indirectly while in her rage. She didn't even know, at the time, that if she had caused his death, whether or not she should feel guilty about it. In a small way, she felt one step closer to avenging Chrysomallus and her mother's deaths. King Cronus had decided to release Marsyas due Sinon's autopsy revealing that the physical injuries he had sustained from their fight would not have caused his death and due to the fact that Sinon confessed to perjury in the King's sacred court of justice. Most of all, Marsyas had garnered admiration from the people of Attilan by devoting herself to a life of seeking justice within the police force and by conducting herself in a just way by treating the people she served with an unspoken sense of equality and respect. For this reason, beyond all, Cronus did not find it wise to severely punish Marsyas in such a public fashion. Rather, Cronus forced Marsyas to resign from the police force and rejoin the rest of the Royal family in fulfilling their "Royal Duties and Offices." In addition, Cronus required Marsyas to apologize to the people for her "passionate outburst" and for the part she played in the destruction of private property. Once Marsyas had done this, she, along with Teles, Medusa, Maximus, Crystal, Triton, Arges, and Pythia, were inducted into King Cronus' Royal Guard. Cronus had noted how capable Marsyas was, not that he would ever let her know that, and decided that she, along with the others, would serve him best as his personal guards. Additionally, due to the recent vacancy in the Head Commander position, Marsyas, using her favor with the people, helped position Phoebus into power as the new acting Head Commander of the Police Force. She helped Phoebus covertly expose as many corrupt cops, once loyal to Sinon, as she could in order to start off Phoebus' command on the best foot it could. Crystal's Desertion The first official mission of the Attilanian Royal Guard was to track down Crystal in order to recover her and bring her back to Attilan. Not wishing to return, Crystal pleaded Johnny and the rest of the Fantastic Four to help her not be taken. This resulted in a skirmish between the Attilanian Royal Guard and the Fantastic Four. Despite the Fantastic Four's best efforts, the Royal Guard succeeded in capturing Crystal. Discovery of Attilan Shortly after Crystal had been returned to Attilan, the Fantastic Four tracked Crystal and the Royal Guard back to the "lost city." Protecting and Serving the King
