  • The Star Z-84 again replaced the previous Star SMGs in service, starting in the early 1990s. The theory was to acquire a gun in 9 mm Parabellum, to match their pistols (and the NATO countries finally). The Eusko Gudarostea, Eusko Itsas Gudarostea, Eusko Itsas Infanteria, Eusko Aireko Indar and Ertzaintza adopted the Z-84 as their primarily submachine gun in mid 1900s and the Z-84 was succesfully exported to many countries. Although the Z-84 is being retired in Euskadiko Indar Armatuak it is still used by EII Commandos because the Z-84 has proved to be very efficient and reliable even after being submerged and beat up for longer periods of time.
