In Star Control 3 the Xchagger are a microscopic race of sentient parasites who typically live on Ortogs. At one time there were many such Xchagger colonies, until all but one was exterminated by the Hegemonic Crux. Following this attack, the Daktaklakpak kidnapped many Xchagger (these abductees were known to the last colony as the "Lost Dynasties") and used them as a biological weapon against the Harika & Yorn. Ultimately the Dynasties were extracted from the Harika by advanced technology, and returned to the Xchagger colony.

They are openly friendly and will try to help other races in any way they can, only asking in exchange that they be treated as equal sapient beings. Having just reached the stars, they are somewhat naive, which resulted in the Hegemonic Crux succeeding in taking advantage of them. They see other sapient life as being "overly complexified", showing their belief that all that is needed for sapience is a lone cell.
