  • A Universal Translator was a Morlock device built from Nanotechnology that could instantaneously translate between different spoken languages. ("The Wee Time Traveler")
  • An instrument which could decipher the inscriptions of the Tablets of Truth. Sub-Zero the Elder of the Lin Kuei clan of assassins found a few of these relics and the mythic Tablets of Truth that were first brought along with the Map of Elements to the Shaolin Temples many years ago from a secret location in the Himalayas, Nepal. Then he found more of them again within the sacred Temple of Elements and used them on the tablets to navigate the temple during his quest to find the Amulet of Shinnok. The Universal Translators and the Tablets of Truths can only be found on the game's Easy Mode.
  • The Universal Translator was a small device created by the being known as The Master. It allows translation between sapient species capable of higher thought processes, such as toa.
  • They didn't often need it, as Kryten had studied almost every language or dialect known to man, for example Kryten was able to talk the language of the Kinitawowi GELFs. ("Emohawk") They were also able to understand the backwards English language of htraE through Kryten reversing it. ("Backwards") One Universal Translator was present aboard Starbug, and with which the crew used to communicate with the intelligent virus Epideme. ("Epideme")
  • The Universal Translator is required in order to open the Trade window with other civilizations.
  • In most science fiction stories that include alien races, the differences in their spoken languages often call for a Universal Translator, which can translate any language into the users first language. The translator itself can range from a small device, usually attached to the ears, to neural implants hooked up to the speech centers of the brain.
  • The Universal Translator is Level 3 technology that can translate almost any language into any other in real time. Universal Translators are very cheap and common alien technology.
  • The universal translator is a device used by many spacefaring races to render the speech of other species and nationalities into the user's native language. It is also known as the UT. The UT has appeared in shipboard computer-based, hand-held, communicator-based, and subcutaneously-implanted versions as the technology has developed. The initial development of the UT used in the Federation owes in a large part to the work of linguist Hoshi Sato. (ENT: "Broken Bow", "In a Mirror, Darkly")
  • The Universal Translator is a very handy gizmo that takes care of that annoying language barrier. While Sues often cross this barrier with no problem, the agents are somewhat more handicapped, and often need to be equipped with these – especially any agent from a place where English is not the dominant language. PPC comms devices get a UT built in as a rule when DoSAT modifies them for cross-world communication, and agents are issued a separate UT regardless shortly after they are recruited. The Babelfish Virus (unrelated to the Babelfish) is not affected by the UT.
  • On Earth, the universal translator was invented shortly before 2151, and was still experimental at the time of the launch of Enterprise NX-01. (ENT: "Broken Bow") Despite its being able to translate alien languages in relatively short order, due to the UT's experimental nature, the use of a skilled linguist – in Enterprise's case, Hoshi Sato – was still required, notably in situations where reading alien languages on the control panels, hatches, and displays were involved. (ENT: "Sleeping Dogs", "Vox Sola") A new language could quickly be translated in person-to-person encounters by having one speak his or her language until the universal translator gathered enough data to build a translation matrix. Sato also created the linguacode translation matrix in order to anticipate and speed up th
  • A universal translator, or UT, was a device used to translate alien languages into a language which the user can understand. As early as the 22nd century, communicators had translators installed, while their wearers kept them out of view, while conversing. However, not all communicators were such. Self-contained systems such as PADDs, tricorders and starship computers did not have automatic translation capabilities. (ENT episodes: "Civilization", "Acquisition", "Precious Cargo")
  • The Universal Translator was one of a long series of "half-inventions" created by Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth. Farnsworth intended for it to be able to translate every language which was currently in use. However, because of a malfunction, it could only translate words into an unknown and long-dead language, which is revealed to be French. Upon hearing a translation while demonstrating the device to Cubert, Farnsworth describes it as "Crazy gibberish!"
