His All-Holiness Maximus IV was the Patriarch of Constantinople in the late fifteenth century. He served as patriarch from 1491 to 1497. Little is known of Patriarch Maximus' early life. Prior to becoming the patriarch he was Metropolitan of Serrai, under the name Manasses. His term as patriarch was stormy, with much division among the Christians, that culminated in his resignation as patriarch. After stepping down he retired to the Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos. He remained at the monastery until his repose at an unknown date.
