Don Pedro Serra came from Petra, Majorca, Spain. He was born 1840 and years later became Spanish Officer assigned in the Philippines. In 1848, while Spaniard Don Jose Oyanguren conquered Davao from Moros (Muslim), Mandayas were plundering Christian settlers of Surigao and Davao Oriental. In 1870s, Mandayas led by their Chiefs or "Baganis" kidnapped young men, women and children from Cateel, Baganga, Caraga and Upper Agusan Valley; sold them as slaves to rich landowners of Cateel and Baganga who were in need of farmworkers. Until in June 1877, Jesuit Missionary Father Pablo Pastells summoned Don Pedro Serra and Don Manuel Menendez with 12 soldiers to stop Mandayas who had been terrorizing Christian settlers. Don Pedro Serra settled in Bislig, Surigao del Sur and had business in Surigao and East Coast of Davao. He married Estefania Bernabe and had 6 children: Manuel (father of Adela Serra Ty), Jose, Domingo, Delfina, Victor and Teresa. His wife died in 1893 and 2 years later, Don Pedro died.
