The Cult of Light was a splinter group of the Charon civilization that existed in Otherspace. Formed during the height of the Galactic Civil War, and working against the Charon Death Cult, the Cult of Light were completely opposite in views compared to their "doom bringing" brethren in that they sought peaceful contact with other species and to share technology. This group was unique in that they were the first Charon who developed hyperspace technology after the Battle of Endor. Using this technology, the cult hoped to follow the Illuminated One to another galaxy and escape the black holes of Otherspace.

For many years, the Cult of Light existed peacefully after escaping from otherspace, however they eventually became the target of the Darksider Sivter and the Cult of Shadow. Sivter, who sought to become the new Prophet of the Void of the Charon Death Cult, had the Cult of Light ruthlessly hunted down and exterminated in preparation for the new mantle he would assume. Sivter personally killed the Illuminated One and stole the knowledge of how to access Otherspace from the Charon leader's head. Unknown to the Cult of Shadow, a single egg from the Cult of Light enclave on Chalacta survived its destruction and came into the possession of the Brotherhood of the Twilight...
