The Marathon-class cruiser was a class of 447 vessels that served in the UNSC Navy during the Human-Covenant War and Remnant War. Built between 2517 and 2552, the Marathon-class cruiser was, on its introduction, the largest, heaviest and most powerful warship constructed by the UNSC, and remained the largest space combatant in widespread service throughout the Human-Covenant War. In addition to its direct combat role, the Marathon-class supplemented existing carrier classes with its complement of 24 F/A-352B Longsword strike starfighters, and could support amphibious assault forces with embarked Marines and dropships. The Marathon-class was equipped with generous command facilities, placing it at the centre of most UNSC Navy formations.
