The story chronicles four estranged characters caught up in a series of university murders and puts centre focus on the forced partnership between two extremely dysfunctional individuals, Chief Of Police Officer Jeffrey Tolliver and former detective turnt Campus Security officer Lena Adams, as well as the unnerving connection between investigating Security Officer Adams and unstable university student Ethan Green which spirals down a path of madness acculumating in drugs and alcohol to ease her instability. The film received universal acclaim and phenomenal reception upon its' release on July 4th, 2014 theatrically and was pre-screened to critics and select audiences in advance. The film went on to secure an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and two Oscar Nominations For Best Actress: Pfeiffer and Best Supporting Actor: O'Brien marking the young actor's first ever Oscar nomination. Pfeiffer secured a Golden Globe for her performance as Detective Lena Adams whilst O'Brien secured a BAFTA. DiCaprio had originally turnt down the role in favor of 2015 film project but signed on as Scorcese raised the revenue of his payment and sent him a personal copy of Slaughter's book to read.
