She is the eldest daughter and third (out of four) child of Li Young. Having her political savviness noticed in her early age, she was crowned Crown Princess when she was only seventeen, much to the dismay of her older brothers and holding Li Young at odds with some of the nobility. Within a year, Li Young would abdicate in favour of her, dying shortly after. Upon her coronation, she was the fourth recorded Han monarch who was female, after Princess Urduja of Pangasinan; and Dayang Kalangitan and Dayang Panginoon of Kingdom of Tondo. Her reign of fifty-eight years is the longest of any Han monarch so far.
