  • First Lieutenant Jared Zasin was a human Insurrectionist. Born in 2488, Zasin joined the Eridanus II Colonial Militia in 2507 as the pilot of a light counter insurgency aircraft after receiving his private pilot's license. During his time in the militia, Zasin came into contact with several Insurrectionists, leading him to join Robert Watts' forces when he began his uprising in 2513. After the failure of the rebellion, Zasin escaped to Eridanus Secundus, where he was personally recognized by Colonel Watts and awarded the Cross of Military Valor. In the years up until 2525, Zasin spent his time commanding the Eridanus Cavaliers, a unit of D77-TC dropships. After the United Nations Space Command's Assault on Eridanus Secundus that led to the capture of Robert Watts, Zasin attempted to keep Jacob Jiles from taking command, a task he failed at, Jiles using the fact that the dropship that Blue Team used to escape was from the Eridanus Cavaliers, and holding Zasin responsible for its loss. In the following years, Zasin's hate for brewed for Jiles. In 2552, after the governor allowed in, and began to aid the Gettysburg-Ascendant Justice, Zasin, inspired by the earlier actions of Jonathan Watts, began a quiet mutiny, planning to leave the asteroid. When Catherine Halsey stole the Beatrice, Zasin 'took chase', instead fleeing to Venezia. Joining the Venezian militia, Zasin came to command the air arm of the militia, constantly pressing Peter Moritz for better equipment and training. After the ceasefire of 2553 was broken in 2556, Zasin and his units put up a stiff fight against UNSC airpower, leading to several early Insurrectionist victories. After a week and a half, however, the resistance could no longer be put up, and Zasin was captured by UNSC Marines, tried for treason, and placed on the Phobos penal colony for a life sentence.
