The Bechdel Test, named for Alison Bechdel, the creator of the comic strip Dykes To Watch Out For, is a litmus test used to determining the importance of the presence of female characters within a media presentation. It should be noted that the test in itself does not determine whether the media presentation is a pro-feminism work or not, as there are works that pass the Bechdel Test that are totally misogynistic in nature. Also, it is easier to screen movies for passing or failing the Bechdel Test than it is for serial works such as TV shows. As far as the Smurfs are concerned, the only related presentations that even come close to passing the Bechdel Test are the 2011 Smurfs movie, with Smurfette having some conversations with Grace Winslow about things other than men (i.e., Smurfs), and Smurfette and Sassette in the cartoon show.
