The Calgary Buffalos were a junior team. The first version started out in the Southern Alberta Junior League in 1946-47. The league merged with the Moose Jaw Canucks and the Regina Pats to form the Western Canada Junior League in 1948-49. The Buffalos won the league title and the Alberta title that season. They folded in 1954. The second version started out as an independent team in 1960-61. They lost the Alberta final in 1961-62, 1962-63, and 1963-64. The Buffalos changed their name to Cowboys in 1966 when the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League admitted a team called the Calgary Buffalos.
