Claire Claremont as portrayed in the the episode, The Modern Prometheus, was based upon the actual historical figure, Clara Mary Jane Clairmont, the stepsister of Mary Shelley. In reality she attached herself to the Shelley's household at the time of their elopement in 1814. In both the episode and in reality, she and Byron were engaged in an affair during the summer of 1816 when they were in Switzerland.
