Scratch Jones was a human intersystem trader in the mid-23rd century, known as a troublemaker engaged in barely legal activities. In 2243, he and two of his crew visited Starbase 2, where they bet on a pool game with Lieutenant Francis Drake Reed and lost. Realizing that they'd been hustled, Jones attacked Reed with a Rigellian dagger, but the assault was ended by security chief George Kirk, who told the traders they had ten minutes to leave the starbase. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)
