Eurysthenes I was the thirteenth Emperor of the Dardanian Empire, reigning from 767 to 763 BC. The Dardanian empire was the precursor of modern Diadochia. Eurysthenes I was the son of Aristokles I, and succeeded his brother Archidamus I in 767 BC. The power of the Emperor was limited by the influence of intriguing court dignitaries. Early in his reign a plague hit the heartland of the empire; this devastated the empire, forcing him to stay in his capital of Assur. When he did go campaigning in 763 BC, his youngest brother revolted and seized the throne.
