abstract
  • The Kuomintang (KMT) under Chiang Kai-shek succeed in stalemating the People's Liberation Army (PLA) at the Yangtze river, creating the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China. Because of the split, future conflicts, such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War took vastly different directions. The stalemate in this timeline is due to the treasonous efforts of Zhang Guota, which killed some of his staff, Ye Jianying and Yang Shangkun, and fatally wounded Mao Zedong. Without Mao's leadership and Zhang's bumbling military attempts, the PLA was defeated despite their superior numbers, leading to the stalemate along the Yangtze river. * Timeline * Nations * People * Maps * Wars
