The Zandheuvels is the small desert in the eastern part of Vanuku. Zandheuvels is Vanukuian for sandy hills. This small but vicious desert is only present in the Bommelaar province. In the eastern part of this desert there are very high mountains containing large amounts of minerals, mostly iron. No people live in the desert, mining camps are located just outside the desert on the eastern side of the mountains.

The Zandheuvels played a very important role in the Great War of Vanuku, the local defender, general Meijering, thought the enemy troops would never try to cross the desert and the large mountains. A terrible mistake as a very bloody battle ensued over the eastern mountains, resulting in 29,000 death on the first day.
