  • The Koth are a sentient Reptilian/Humanoid species from the far reaches of the Beta Quadrant, with both reptilian and mammal like features. They are bi-pedal, walk upright, and have two arms. They have a keen sense of smell (very large nostrils on all) and a ferocious appetite. They prefer to feast on live prey (including other sentient species), sometimes feeding on it immediately, sometimes storing 'food' in stasis chambers for later consumption. Koth require hibernation for several months during a cycle (2 1/2 years), though they are not all on the same time schedule. Their young hatch from soft shelled eggs, grouped together in numbers of 2 - 12, depending on the kind. There are three basic kinds of Koth: 1. * Khunuri: Basically the workers. They are small, normally about 3-4 feet tall, with greenish brown to greenish blue reptilian-like skin, bit eyes, big nostrils, and big pointy ears (imagine an overgrown Gremlin). Their comparably large mouth sports several rows of very sharp teeth. They have three fingers and three toes with thick sharp nails on each. Usually, the Khunuri hang in groups of 'hatchlings', which consists of about 6 - 12 individuals. They are lightning quick and attack in such groups, jumping all over their victim in no apparent pattern, as they rip flesh from it. Due to their enormous ears, they have a heightened sense of hearing. Appr. 50 % of the Koth species are Khunuri. 2. * Kszebi: These are the thinkers. They are usually between 5 and 6 feet tall, with deep to dark green reptilian-like skin that sports black spots along the back and a fluffy furry patch (usually white or grayish) on their chest to stomach area. Their eyes and ears are almost as big as the Khunuri's but look small compared to their whole body size. They have four fingers and toes, with no obvious claw like nails. Their heads are bigger than the Khunuri's, with almost Ferengi-like skull features, giving them the intellectual edge of the species. Positions of responsibility in the society and on ships are held by the Kszebi. Although, at first glance they don't seem as threatening as the Khunuri, they do have the same type of teeth and bare them when defending themselves (most of the attacking and hunting is done by the Khunuri). They usually hang out in groups of 2 - 3 individuals, and defend themselves by working together like a team. Appr. 20 % of the Koth species are Kszebi. 3. * Korumak: The guards. Very tall, easily more than 7 feet, broad shouldered and chested, they also sports bat-like wings. Unlike the others, their hide is more mammal-like, but tough. Usually medium to dark brown with a light fur cover all over and more pronounced hair on the chest and on top of the skull. Their eyes and ears are quite a bit smaller than the Khunuri's, and appear very tiny compared to their overall body size. They are enormously strong, though not very swift, unless in the air. Their aerobatic skills are awe-inspiring. If one wants to face the Korumak and have a chance, one needs to catch them on the ground, where they are less agile. Just like their brethren, they have a keen sense of smell, though their hearing and vision lacks, they do have something similar to echolocation (like bats). They also have sharp fangs and a powerful bite. Once they have a hold of their victim, they will not easily let go of it. They have four toes and three fingers with sharp claws. Most Korumak appear in groups of 3 - 5 individuals and are a deadly force to content with, making up for their lack of agility with bulk and brutal strength. Appr. 30 % of the Koth species are Korumak.

  • Koth was founded by Hyperboreans on the borders of pastoral Shem. It is a landlocked realm bordering to Argos, Ophir, Corinthia, Zamora, Shem, and the minor principalities of Khauran and Khoraja. Koth dominates overland trade route trafic and maintains significant ties to almost all of its neighbors. It is often considered an empire. The capital city is Khorshemish, the so-called "Queen of the South". Civil wars are often in Koth and the kings/emperors have to deal with rebelious subordinates. But after a bloody war, they can retreat behind the high walls of their palaces and find peace in their gardens. The pride of Koth is its armor industry, with the quality of their weapons considered devine. Koth is one of the southernmost of the Hyborian kingdoms, but has some unusual cultural features. It has been culturally influenced by both Shem and Stygia, and has rejected the worship of Mitra traditional to Hyborians. Its primary deity is Ishtar. Many Shemites serve in its army and are active throughout the realm. Conan and Shapur were sent by King Maddoc II with untrained troops (prisoners released from the cells) to battle the savage M'Gai tribe. The battle broke up as the M'Gai leader, Kollos, on the verge of victory, fled upon sensing the approach of Imhotep. The demon confronted the Cimmerian, and was eventually defeated. Impressed by Conan's prowess, Imhotep kneeled before him and became his slave. Conan then prepared to lead his troops back to El Shah Maddoc. As they were traveling to the military outpost in Bhoraji, Conan and Anneka were attacked by Xuthl's Shedu, which killed at least one helpless possessed villager, several of Conan’s men, toyed with the barbarian by making Anneka threaten to slit her wrists, and then assumed the form of a herd of wild boar and later animating an entire hillock with their essence to battle Conan. Conan finally defeated the Shedu with the help of the Footslave of the Elder Gods, using the Footslave’s totem. In an attempt to save his friend Kobe’s life, Conan then battled Bahkt, an old ally turned enemy deranged by indulging in the drug-like and potentially deadly black lotus. Meanwhile Solaise experimented with her strange and potentially devastating powers, causing a freak sunburst in the middle of the night, allowing Bahkt to escape and Conan’s second in command Shapur to rescue Kobe. Conan's army was eventually found by Red Sonja, while idiotic General Freja angered an old, dying beast which attacked a nearby village. The Cimmerian rid throughout Koth in the service of the rebel Prince Irham. When Red Sonja was found unconscious, badly beaten and sexually assaulted in the Kothian wilderness, Conan went alone to hunt Bahkt in the Forest of the Eternal Verities, while his comrades returned to the camp. General Freja then took the chance to put all the Cimmerian's comrades under arrest and kill Sedrick; angered, Solaise unleashed her deadly powers, instantly killing Freja and all his men. The Cimmerian came back presenting Sonja with Bahkt’s decapitated head. Leaving her tent, Conan then grabbed Solaise, asking her what she knew of the Devourer of Souls; right about then Kaleb decked him. Conan and Kaleb then waged a pitched battle, until they followed Solaise and Sedrick into a portal in the air to the Forest of the Eternal Verities, and there they were joined by their band. Back to their camp, Conan's small army was attacked twice by a gang of scavengers, who eventually managed to kill Simeon. After another sweep of 'white death', they all joined Conan and Thulsa Doom against the Devourer of Souls. The Devourer then unleashed a blast of eldritch energy so powerful it created a mushroom cloud, but Conan and his allies were protected by the Golden Sword of the Elder Gods and remained untouched. Furious, Wraarl unleashed a massive fireball over the southern kingdoms and teleported away. Thulsa Doom then summoned Xuthl, who agreed to help them against the Devourer of Souls. After the demon informed them to Wraarl's location in Aquilonia, Conan and his allies moved on to catch him, crossing the northern border into Ophir. Some time later, Conan and the Free Companions fled from the Kothian army of King Strabonus through the Lake of Salts.

This "disease" includes "disorientation during battle, a lethargic attitude toward the hunt, and a general incompetence when it comes to the honorable activities of Klingon culture." As an adolescent, Koth forsook the traditional path to political ascendancy, and instead entered into the religious training of the Klingon mystics on Boreth. Koth quickly became an astute religious scholar, but he still had a profound distaste for the obsession with battle that permeates into Klingon religion. Much to the dishonor of his house, Koth claimed his birthright inheritance in his mid-twenties and used that money to travel to other worlds, studying the religious and cultural histories of over two dozen civilizations. During the Dominion War, Koth spent his time on Earth. His small ship was destroyed during the Breen attack on Earth during the final year of the war, effectively stranding him there. Later, Koth would recount that this was God's way of telling him that Earth had something special to give him. Upon visiting the Sistine Chapel in Italy, Koth was struck by the beauty of the long since dead Catholic faith. (Star Trek: Frontiers) Probing deeper into many of the great Catholic thinkers, especially Blaise Pascal, led Koth to convert to Catholicism (albeit a mysticized form). Koth would make a pilgrimage to the Jordan River and baptize himself during his 2nd year on Earth. The doctrines of peace and sacrifice proclaimed by Christ and the universal claims of Catholicism resonated deeply with Koth, allowing him to finally move beyond the violence in his Klingon heritage. Koth began a daily ritual of meditation, reflection, and religious study that he maintains to this day. Koth was particularly struck by Christ's statement that "Blessed are the peacemakers," and soon he realized it was his duty to spread his internal peace to as many worlds as he could. The aftermath of the Dominion War left many worlds in a tenuous situation, and Koth wanted to do something about it. He entered the ambassadorial training program of the United Federation of Planets, and was found to be one of the most proficient students in interplanetary diplomacy to ever attended to school. Koth attributes this to divine mandate, although a thorough medical scan once showed that the retardation of many of the hormonal and neural centers associated with Klingon belligerence had allowed untapped areas for knowledge retention, analytical thinking, language use, and abstract thought to come to the forefront. Koth would develop a remarkable gift for learning languages, and soon had mastered over thirty languages (he still maintains that Klingon is the most difficult). He has developed a strict policy that during negotiations with other races, the universal translator shall be off-line. Koth makes every effort to communicate in the other species' language naturally and to grasp as many aspects of their culture as possible. Koth has become THE premiere ambassador for the UFP, and had a crucial role in the signing of the Frontiers Accords with the Romulan Star Empire that is crucial to the success of the Frontiers project. Koth will assume the role of ambassador to the Far Reaches aboard the Enterprise, with jurisdiction over both the Enterprise and the Frontier.
