PC Malcolm Haynes is a character in The Bill. PC Haynes was one of the first Black police officers to serve at Sun Hill, following the Met's big drive to recruit officers from ethnic minorities in the early eighties. He was born and raised in the Notting Hill/Ladbroke Grove area of West London and had pounded the beats in some of the more volatile of the Met’s Divisions, including a posting at Brixton during the Summer of ‘81. Haynes was street-smart and energetic; this combined with his enthusiastic nature made him a highly-effective copper. He also had a sense of humour that matched the colour of his skin.
