Fry Featherston Field was the irreverent name given to a U.S. Air Corps airfield that Colonel Terry DeFrancis had bulldozed in the west Texas prairie when he was first assigned to the Eleventh Army. From this and similar fields, DeFrancis launched a series of bomber raids on Confederate airfields which shortly eliminated Confederate air power in the theatre giving the U.S. air domination.
