| - The United Nations Space Command Navy, often shortened to the UNSC Navy and commonly referred to as The Navy by humans, is the space faring naval warfare service branch of the United Nations Space Command Defence Force and one of the nine uniformed services. It is the third largest Naval force in the Orion Spur and the ninetieth largest in known space by tonnage. The Navy has almost two hundred and fifty million personnel on active duty and another seventy million in the Naval Reserves. It operates over two hundred and eighty thousand vessels in active duty and almost one million vacuum-rated starfighters. The UNSC Navy traces its origins from the in-system colony systems used before the United Federation in the late 2000's and early 2100's and comprised simply of colony ships transporting colonists and equipment, supply ships and repair ships, which in that timeframe was known as the UN Navy. But during the Interplanetary War of the 2160's - precisely during the Argyre Planitia Campaign of 2163, as a result of the United Nations' need to oversee and monitor Marine deployments from space, thus forming the United Nations Space Command. With the advent of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine in 2291, the UNSC rapidly constructed multiple long-range colony vessels along with numerous escort ships. These thirty-odd warships, Beckett-Class Frigates, were the first of humanities interstellar fleet. Over time, these warships were slowly replaced with more and more advanced warships as technology advanced and more vessels were added to the UNSC Navy until it had over two hundred vessels and support craft. During the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC Navy sustained heavy losses of materiƩl and personnel throughout the Imperial Campaign of genocide against the humans. Many valuable assets of the UNSC Navy were destroyed during the Fall of Reach, and a very large portion of its remaining ships were lost when the Prophet Hierarch Truth occupied Earth. At the end of the Great War, the Navy consisted of several badly damaged frigates all under crewed. With Sangheili materials, the UNSC Navy rapidly expanded once more. Compared to the previous naval vessels, the post-Great War naval vessels were much larger and more powerful to help even the balance against Covenant vessels. The most numerous vessel during the Great War was the Nelson-Class Frigate which due to its small size which lessened the strain of the UNSC dwindling resources. In post-Great War terminology, the Nelson-Class would be recognised as a Fast Attack Craft. On a similar note, the largest naval vessel during the Great War, the Trafalgar-Class Supercarrier which came at four thousand meters would be deemed a Light Carrier when compared to its twenty eight thousand meter long post-Great War cousin.
