Prior to her current occupation, Ukina was raised to be a shrine maiden of the Water Temple, and thus celebrated as a prominent religious figure across the country. However, her desire to become a Kunoichi and make a difference in her country eventually lead her to be disowned from the temple. As her growth as a Kunoichi continued, Ukina would eventually partner Team S on a mission and eventually develop romantic repertoire with Hazame. Prior to her promotion to Jōnin, she would bear a child named Hoshino.

| - "River Maiden" Ukina (川女のウキナ, Senko no Ukina) is the bodyguard of Ayumu Hasugawa and a particularly skillful Jōnin of Kirigakure. Prior to her current occupation, Ukina was raised to be a shrine maiden of the Water Temple, and thus celebrated as a prominent religious figure across the country. However, her desire to become a Kunoichi and make a difference in her country eventually lead her to be disowned from the temple. As her growth as a Kunoichi continued, Ukina would eventually partner Team S on a mission and eventually develop romantic repertoire with Hazame. Prior to her promotion to Jōnin, she would bear a child named Hoshino. With the advent of Ayumu's Mizukage elections, all of Team S and their immediate family were targets for his opposition. In his attempt to save his family, Hazame sacrificed his life, thus biding enough time for Ayumu to intervene with the assassination and allow Ukina and Hoshino to live. Despite considering Ayumu responsible for her status as a widow, Ukina honors her husband's memory and her own wishes for change by standing right by his side, acting as his voice of reason in times of despair.
