The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology sponsors the National Engineering Research Centers (NERC). There are currently 141 NERCs across the country, which are involved in research in a variety of sectors, including energy, manufacturing, information and telecommunication technologies, biotechnology, and health care. The mission of the NERCs is to cultivate first-class talent, build state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, and shape technology innovation and industrial bases for scientific R&D and technology transfer.
