  • ホビット庄の東四が一の庄で冒険者は、ホビットたちに「ブランディワイン」の名で親しまれている、遥か北のイヴンディムの丘から流れるバランドゥイン川を発見するだろう。この緩やかな流れの大河に架かる頻繁に利用される横断手段の一つが、西の土手に位置する沢地と東方のバック郷を結ぶホビット庄の東方にあるバックル村の渡し場だ。バックル村の渡し場は、（両側にある）木の踊り場から成り立つ簡素な構造をしており、その間を小さな舟が行き来する。だが、暗黒の日々に入ってから、舟は姿を消してしまった。侵入者から逃れるために運行されなくなったのかもしれない。または単に捨てられ、ブランディワインを流れ下り、未知の世界へと去っていったのかもしれない。この地を旅する者は大河を歩いて渡るか、川上を少し行ったところにあるブランディワイン橋（別名：石弓橋）を目指すことをお勧めする。
