Molecular shielding, also known as a molecular shield, was a special type of deflector shield. This advanced technology was developed in 10 ABY. The first war machines to incorporate it were the X-1 Viper droids, which were used by the New Republic. The molecular shielding installed on these droids made them quite durable, but the shielding was useless against the reborn Emperor's Chrysalide beasts.

  • Molecular shielding, also known as a molecular shield, was a special type of deflector shield. This advanced technology was developed in 10 ABY. The first war machines to incorporate it were the X-1 Viper droids, which were used by the New Republic. The molecular shielding installed on these droids made them quite durable, but the shielding was useless against the reborn Emperor's Chrysalide beasts. Molecular shielding differed from conventional shielding in that it did not merely deflect or neutralize energy weapons, but absorbed their energy and converted it, using it to power the war machine's own weapons. It was invulnerable to all short-range energy weapons, including artillery-grade guns.
