About: Æthernet   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : dbkwik.org associated with source dataset(s)

The Universe-Uniting Æthernet ("the W.Æ.," "W.E.,"We," "W.A.E.," "U.U.Æ." or "U.U.A.E." for short) often the Æthernet or Aethernet is a universe-wide system of communication facilitated by psychokinetic simulators, linking together trillions of people across quintillions of kilometers, and from thousands of different planets, and hundreds of different species. It uses the infinite spacetime of the Æther to power psymulators (short for "psychokinetic simulators"), enhancing or entirely emulating psychic powers in its users. The user interface of the Æthernet is similar to real-life VR, projecting information onto in-eye devices with simulated psychic powers. Screens can also be used to interact with the Æthernet, and are sometimes entirely simulated, up to, and including tactile information

  • The Universe-Uniting Æthernet ("the W.Æ.," "W.E.,"We," "W.A.E.," "U.U.Æ." or "U.U.A.E." for short) often the Æthernet or Aethernet is a universe-wide system of communication facilitated by psychokinetic simulators, linking together trillions of people across quintillions of kilometers, and from thousands of different planets, and hundreds of different species. Screens can also be used to interact with the Æthernet, and are sometimes entirely simulated, up to, and including tactile information such as the feel of keys on an on-screen keyboard. In general loading screens, or "user is typing" indicators are indicated by a small spinning wheel. The opsym was the first to use it, and the Æther-Man slowly imposed it on the whole of himself. He is the god of the Æthernet. Users are able to project themselves into the Æthernet as avatars, which they can modify to look exactly like themselves, or exactly as they want to look. Some users, notably upwards of 95% of Skazmians, choose to live out their lives in the Æthernet as avatars. Æplaces such as Seeview.psy, LuckFour.psy, Aet!.tel, PurpleNet.psy, TheHornman.tel (all owned by LuckFour Inc., they are respectively a video site, a search site, a food ordering site, a forum for Earthlings/Earth-related subjects, and a porn site), newit.tel, imperial.new, and Ætherbook.psy are among the most popular (these last three are reddit, a monarch-backed news site, and an online encyclopedia). The most popular domain name is .psy, followed by .tel. Other domain names include .new, .think, .c, and .avatar. Popular Æshows on Seeview.psy include RELGRADE, a period piece set during the 5th Great War between humankind and the Mur. The show uses simulated A.I.s of real historical characters, and one, a brilliant strategist named Jonos Seftanson, has begun catching on, and will soon be set free by the Æther-Man as a way of analyzing human techniques on A.I.-creation, and so that he can be the trial run for being fushed to him. Viewers of the show are not aware of this A.I. use, but have some posited it as a conspiracy theory, and it is generally accepted among hardcore fans of the show. The showrunners have laughed it off as a "bogus" theory.
