Dear Diary, I was appointed general of the infant Chilean military today. It is a very nerve-wracking task because we do not have finances to keep Chile’s independence intact. The national treasury is empty, and the only way to get income is to raise taxes, or to get money by defeating our enemies in war, which would be very difficult because we don't have the finances to create an army. I will have to go as far as holding people ransom. While I know this not the best idea, it is the most efficient way to get the money back. If we wait, Joaquin de la Pezuela will defeat us before we defeat him. Every second Chile is vulnerable to a royalist attack if we do not keep the Spanish government officials away from us.
