James Hiscutt Crossman (c.1831 - 19 September 1899) was a brewer and public representative active in the East End of London. He was the son of Robert Crossman, manager of the Border Brewery of Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland. In 1846 his father went into partnership with James Mann, owner of the existing Albion Brewery in Whitechapel, with Thomas Paulin of the Isleworth Brewery joining the company with became Mann, Crossman & Paulin. James Hiscutt Crossman joined the brewery partnership in 1860. Some information here [1].

  • James Hiscutt Crossman (c.1831 - 19 September 1899) was a brewer and public representative active in the East End of London. He was the son of Robert Crossman, manager of the Border Brewery of Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland. In 1846 his father went into partnership with James Mann, owner of the existing Albion Brewery in Whitechapel, with Thomas Paulin of the Isleworth Brewery joining the company with became Mann, Crossman & Paulin. James Hiscutt Crossman joined the brewery partnership in 1860. Active in Conservative politics and the Church of England, in 1870 he was elected to the first London School Board as one of the representatives for Hackney. He lost his seat at the second school board election in 1873. By 1886 he found himself in financial difficulties, and he sold his shareholding. His son, James Hiscutt Crossman junior subsequently became a partner. Following his retirement to moved to the coastal resort of Folkestone, Kent, where he died, aged 68. Some information here [1].
