In fact, watching them struggle to get away is such an interesting pastime in the areas of the Drips that there are crude balconies from which people cheer this sight erected anywhere where there is a good view. Aside from the castle the sides of the mountain are spotted with caves. Many of these belch forth clouts of steaming slime at random intervals for no well explained reason. Others give vent to swirling clouds of vaporous stenches. These are, by virtue of ancient and boring laws, the private property of The Slurphurdles. Liveried miners work these rich stench and slime veins to provide money to maintain the collapsing edifice of castle Slurphurdle as well as fund the strange, randomly benevolent projects of the king. The top of the mountain is mostly unexplored. Those few brave souls that try and brave the peaks beyond the highest wings of the castle tell tales of rampant, giant smelementals and strange creatures made of slime. Those with particularly accurate peepers have also told of some huge, winged thing circling the peak on some clear-ish mornings.
