His son Joseph Gagliano also become a member of the New Orleans family during the 1990s. He was the owner of Frank's Deli in New Orleans. Gagliano was a close ally of Marcello and attended the denominated "Little Apalachin" conference in New York on September 22, 1966. It has been alleged that the meeting was called to resolve matters relating to the New Orleans crime family. Anthony Carollo was also apparently seeking official approval to take over the New Orleans Mafia when Marcello eventually retired. Police raided the building and arrested all thirteen men, all members of the Mafia. The group were all taken to a nearby police station, questioned, searched and then released on personal bail of $100,000 each. Amongst the attendees were notorious New York mobsters Michele Miranda, Thomas Eboli, Dominic Alongi, Aniello Dellacroce and Santo Trafficante, Jr. of Tampa. In 1990, Carollo became the new boss of the New Orleans family and made Gagliano his underboss. In 1995, Gagliano and four other mobsters pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering and conspiracy for skimming profits off Louisiana's video poker industry primarily through two company's that prosecutors said were mob fronts. Gagliano remained active in mafia related activities until his death of natural causes in 2006 at age 75. His son Joseph Gagliano, is believed to be the current boss of the New Orleans crime family.
