The Central European Treaty Organization, referred to as "Mevo" (after its Amideutsch name of Mitteleuropäischevertragsorganization) or as the Triple Alliance, was formed in mid 1636 as a defensive alliance between the United States of Europe, Bohemia, and Austria-Hungary. The name was an allusion to the up-time North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The alliance was formed in response to the knowledge that Ottoman forces were headed toward Vienna. One of the immediate effects was Austrian recognition of Bohemia's independence under Wallenstein.
