Her husband was district commissioner Adolph Brewster, who wrote the book The Hill Tribes of Fiji. The couple lived in Nadarivatu, Fiji, during the late 1800s. Alice became a widow in 1939. She became blind when she was in her 90s. At the time of her death on 9 October 1982, she was the oldest person in the UK. Her final age was 111 years, 23 days.
