David Robinson is the eldest son of John and Maureen Robinson in the 2004 pilot of The Robinsons: Lost in Space. David is around seventeen or eighteen and has a teenageD sister, Judy; a younger ten-year-old brother Will; and an infant sister named Penny. David struggles with his own identifiy in the shadow of his famous father who saved Earth from alien invaders. David feels inferior to both John and his genius younger brother Will. When aliens attack, the Robinsons are aboard the Jupiter Mother-ship, but manage to get aboard the Jupiter 2 Space Pod and escape, but David is accidentaly left behind and is killed in the exploding Jupiter Mother Ship. John wants to turn back to save David, but the Mother-shiphip disintegrates as Maureen looks on and whispers, "David." With David dead, John can never hope for the reconciliaton with his son. The opportunity for John to tell David that he loves and respects him is now gone. Although David disappeared when the Jupiter Mother Ship was destroyed, John insists that one day he will find David and make things right again.
