| - Pa. high school football classifications won't change Friday, July 24, 2009 by Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The landscape of Pennsylvania high school football will not change. The PIAA Board of Control voted, 15-13, this morning against a proposal that would add two classifications to football only, beginning in 2010. The proposal would've given Pennsylvania six classes in football. Classifications are based on school enrollment. The defeated proposal also would've shortened the season by one week. That means the season will remain at 16 weeks through at least the 2011 season.

The Board of Control acted on recommendations by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association strategic planning committee, which met last night. The planning committee voted, 11-5, against the six-classification idea and, 12-4, to keep only four classes and a 16-week season. All 16 members of the strategic planning committee are on the Board of Control.
