Carmel, the fifth of nine children began singing in church in her homeland of Petion-Ville, Haiti. One of her early engagements began as a lead singer with the group Don Divin in her home church. Aside from that, Carmel has worked with many of Haiti’s different talented artists. One could say that it was her way of "paying her dues" as an aspiring singer. It wasn’t long before she began to be recognized by Haiti’s music community and soon it was requested that she produced her own project. With the help of her husband Jean (Jean Jean) Desgrottes as executive producer, Carmel released her first solo project in 1995. The album was appropriately titled Reflexion. Since spirituality plays an important role in Carmel’s life, the album encourages the listener to reflect on his/her life and to become more conscious of their relationship with God. The album is not just for Christians, but it is inspirational for all who want to strenghten their spirituality. Reflexion became a big hit in the Caribbean islands, as well as the Caribbean community in the United States and Canada. Although Carmel has had much success with the album, she hopes that it touches the hearts of those who hear it. And that they too may come to understand the love of God as she has since accepted the Lord as her Savior. While Carmel possesses experience as a singer, she still feels it necessary to develop and broaden her knowledge in music and the business itself. For this reason, she has enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, majoring in Vocal Performance and Music Business. She is now in her fifth semester of course work. While pursuing the vigorous demands of an education and being a mom, Carmel has continued to tour most of the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and the United States. She has also just completed her second release entitled Feel so Good and is scheduled for more tours this year. Keep an eye for this great talent as she spreads God’s message.
