"The Last of the Claudians" was a nickname given to Ensign James T. Kirk by his classmates at Starfleet Academy after he excelled in a debate on the virtues of a republic. The nickname lasted about three minutes before Graves, the history instructor, remarked that he was more like an earlier Claudian, Tiberius, referring to Kirk's impatience sometimes overwhelming his compassion.
