abstract
  • The Democratic Party of Kanjor was founded in 3787 as a centrist option. The two main parties were seen by many as far too leftist. This prompted university professor Paul Daoust to create the Parti Démocratique. The elections of 3792 yielded a hung Senate. The PD garnered 20.2% of the popular vote and 20 seats, becoming the second largest party in the nation. The Democrats agree to support the minority government of Louis Bourbon's Republican Party. In the 3792 elections, the Democrats received 25.6% of the vote on the island while only receiving 16.2% of the vote on the mainland. The majority of the party's seats came from the island. During the legislative session, the Democrats pushed for economic reforms designed to liberalize the economy and supported efforts to create a republic. Paul Daoust resigned his post as leader of the PD in February of 3794. Interim leader, and Finance critic Annabelle Ménard became the official leader after a close race against Environment critic Claudia Viens. They received 51% of the membership vote to 49% respectively. Under Ménard's leadership, the Democrats stumbled in the 3794 elections, which it had helped to call. The PD received 14.4% of the vote and 15 seats. Negotiations led to a Republican led coalition government of pan-republican parties along with the FSP (Popular Socialist Front).
