A policeman of the Metropolitan Police Service was present in Trafalgar Square on 23 October 1843 when the Fifth Doctor climbed Nelson's Column. He made little attempt to stop him and was forced to flee when several stone lions came after him. The stone lions killed him and seven civilians.
