The Vankyr were an ancient race of beings with a host of Vampiric traits. The Vankyr would not age nor die by conventional methods, they fed off the living by puncturing their victims necks with their fangs then drinking the victims blood. They possesed unnatural speed allowing them to appear, almost to be in two places at once. The Vankyr had a sensitivity to bright light and walking in bright-sunlight could prove uncomfortable or even fatal for one not wearing heavy robes, covering their skin.

Some Vankyr were force-sensitive, and able to enhance their already formiddable powers with the force. The Vankyr form was not corrupted by the darkside like lesser beings, but strengthened and enhanced. Although originally a primal, animal-like race - the Vankyr infection was known to have spread to humans, forming a lesser, but very similar being. Although the Vankyr have been extinct for millenia, the dark Lord Darius Malakai organised for the cloning prodigy Cair Alana to create one for him to inhabit - thus creating a physical form able to contain the immense dark side energy of Darius Malakai.
