Her litter-mates were her three sisters One Eyed Wilma(VLF160), O'Toolie(VLF161) and Shallot(VLF162). A few days before her birth, her grandmother, the dominant female of the Lazuli, Young gave birth to a litter of pups named Brea, Grutte Pier and Griene Tsiis. The Lazuli was a good size group with many adults to help look after the pups. Young allowed the subordinate litter to remain in the Lazuli. Soon all the pups started foraging with the adults. In December Young gave birth to another litter, Sossusvlei was way too young to help babysit the new pups. She was still depend on the adults to take care of her.
