Syral Saganu was a female Chiss officer of the Confederacy of Independent Systems navy and later of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Hailing from a family of Chiss exiles in the Outer Rim Territories, Saganu was trained in different styles of combat in her youth, becoming a skilled combatant. However, she was later captured and forced into serving a group of pirates, becoming a member of their crew. The event she witnessed and took part in horrified Saganu, and scarred her for life. During a raid against a Trade Federation "freighter", she was captured, along with the rest of the pirates. The Chiss woman got her revenge by giving away all of the information she knew on the pirates to the Federation, who had the pirates executed. However, afterwards, Saganu was pressed into service in
