Jonathan Miles Renecle, nicknamed "Jono" and born in South Africa, is the captain of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel the MV Brigitte Bardot televised on the Animal Planet show Whale Wars. On a campaign to the Southern Ocean to prevent Japanese whalers from hunting, the Bardot was forced go through the edge of an Antarctic storm to meet up with the MY Bob Barker for refueling. Before the Barker could get to the Bardot, a rogue wave hit the left side of the boat, causing the pontoon to crack; without the pontoon, the ship could go down in a matter of seconds, or days. Renecle was able to stay calm long enough for the crew to tie on the pontoon with ropes and attach flotation devices. Eventually, everyone but four people were moved onto the MY Steve Irwin or the MY Bob Barker.
