The chamber of the New Wales Senate is located in the north wing of the Capitol, in St Marys, the national capital. The House of Conference convenes in the south wing of the same building.

abstract
| - The New Wales Senate is the upper house of the bicameral New Wales Parliament, the lower house being the House of Conference. The composition and powers of the Senate and the House are established in Article One of the New Wales Constitution (which does not use the terms "upper" and "lower"). Each state is represented by two senators, regardless of population. Senators serve staggered four-year terms. The chamber of the New Wales Senate is located in the north wing of the Capitol, in St Marys, the national capital. The House of Conference convenes in the south wing of the same building. The Senate has several exclusive powers not granted to the House, including consenting to treaties as a precondition to their ratification and consenting or confirmation of appointments of federal judges, other federal executive officials, military officers and other federal uniformed officers, as well as trying federal officials impeached by the House. The Senate is a more deliberative body than the House of Conference because the Senate is smaller, allowing for a more collegial and less partisan atmosphere that is more insulated from public opinion than the House. The Senate is considered a more prestigious body than the House of Conference because of its smaller membership, and abilities The constitution allows that when a senator resigns mid-term for the governors of the electorate to which the senator is from to appoint temporary senators until the next regular election for that retiring senator takes place, as long as the election is less than a year away. If more than 12 months away; then a special election is to take place to bring the seat back into line with convention.
