Gendron played junior for the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He also played for Canada at the 1993 and the 1994 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Drafted in 1992 by the Washington Capitals, he spent about four seasons in the Capitals system without making the NHL team. He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. Unable to break into the lineup in Chicago, Gendron remained in the minors until he left to play in Europe in 2000. He played in Europe for two years and retired in 2002. Gendron played in 30 NHL games and scored 4 goals and 2 assists.
